Tech-savvy Saudi youth key to Kingdom's leap into digital economy: Huawei exec

��Ƶ needs to make use of its young digitally-ready population so it can “leapfrog” into the digital economy, according to a top executive at Chinese tech firm Huawei.

Speaking to Arab News, Safder Nazir, senior vice-president of digital industries at Huawei Middle East, pointed to the Kingdom’s tech-savvy youngsters as holding the key for innovation.

According to ��Ƶ’s General Authority for Statistics, 69 percent of the population are 35 years old or younger.

RIYADH: Checkout.com is eying more expansion in the Middle East and is planning to hire around a hundred more employees in the region this year with “nearly half of them are here in Saudi,” Guillaume Pousaz, Founder & CEO said.

��Ƶ is a growing market with a young population and high penetration of cell phones.

While cash, or cash-on-delivery, is still currently the preferred way to pay for online purchases in ��Ƶ, Apple pay is quickly gaining traction, Pousaz told Arab News on the sidelines of the LEAP event.

RIYADH: Saudi-based corporate expenses firm Simplified Financial Solutions Co., also known as SiFi, has completed its undisclosed funding pre-seed round.

The money raised in the round, led by Khwarizmi Ventures, KV, will be used to launch its services based around business expenses management.

Founded in 2021, SiFi is currently in its pre-launch stage, and Breyer Capital, was one of the angel investors which participated in the round, a statement showed.

RIYADH: Riyadh-based Artificial Intelligence company Mozn has successfully raised $10 million in series A funding, a statement revealed.

Mozn will use the funds to enhance its Natural Language Understanding engine and unlock use cases that have never been possible before for the 2 billion people using Arabic and other related languages across the globe.

NLU enables machines to read and process text allowing applications a far better bandwidth and precision compared to manual processing.

RIYADH: ��Ƶ’s General Authority of Civil Aviation, known as GACA, has partnered with Oracle and Microsoft to accelerate digital transformation in a range of sectors.

The authority signed initial agreements with both companies during the international LEAP 2022 tech conference held in Riyadh, Saudi Press Agency reported.

As per the agreement with the computer software company Oracle, the parties will mutually coordinate to develop a plan for digital transformation of the cloud environment.

RIYADH: The first Saudi data center fund initiative is set to kick off thanks to a collaboration between leading financial services provider Saudi Fransi Capital, or SFC, and Al Moammar Information Systems Co., also known as MIS.

The partnership falls in line with the digital infrastructure initiative launched by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology back in 2021 which entails an $18 billion scheme to construct networks of significant data centers across ��Ƶ.

As the COVID-19 pandemic set in, ��Ƶ’s adoption of cloud technology gained considerable momentum, Oracle’s managing director of the Kingdom and its vice president for cloud in SALEENA told Arab News in an interview.

Fahad AlTurief said that this followed the company’s launch of the first cloud data center in Jeddah in February 2020.
