Manila: When Daryl Anasco moved to Riyadh five years ago, he was drawn by ��Ƶ’s construction boom under Vision 2030 and its ambitious megaprojects, in which he immediately saw a window of opportunity for his career.

Fairly new to the profession and only 24 at the time, Anasco soon found himself immersed in work and projects he would not have been able to pursue in his native Bohol province in the central Philippines.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and ��Ƶ have reached a consensus on investment modalities with regard to a proposed free trade agreement (FTA) with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), the Pakistani information minister said on Sunday.

The statement came a day after Pakistan’s Caretaker Commerce Minister Gohar Ejaz’s visit to the Kingdom for the finalization of investment-related chapter of the FTA between Pakistan and the six-nation GCC bloc.

RIYADH: The interior ministers of Gulf Cooperation Council countries held their 39th meeting at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the GCC in Riyadh on Wednesday.

The meeting was led by Saudi Interior Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif in the presence of GCC Secretary-General Nayef Falah Al-Hajraf with the participation of the ministers from UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait and Qatar.

Prince Abdulaziz conveyed the greetings of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and their wishes for the meeting’s success.

CAIRO: Egypt has agreed to resume diplomatic relations with Qatar, the Egyptian foreign ministry said on a statement on Wednesday.
"Arab Republic of Egypt and the state of Qatar has exchanged two official notes today, Jan. 20, according to which the two countries agreed to resume diplomatic relations," the statement said.

RIYADH: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has asked the UN to extend an international arms embargo on Iran.

A letter sent by the GCC’s secretary general, Nayef Al-Hajraf, to the Security Council cites Tehran’s support for terrorism and its hostile actions against neighbouring countries as reasons to back an extension.

The embargo prevents the movement of conventional weaponry in and out of Iran, and is set to expire on Oct. 18 as part of the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.

RIYADH: Gulf countries are militarily ready to address any threats or terrorist attacks, a statement by the chiefs of staff of the Gulf Cooperaion Council (GCC) states said at a meeting on Thursday.

The statement also said the attacks on Saudi Aramco oil facilities last month were “a flagrant violation of the security and safety of GCC states.”

The extraordinary meeting was held in Riyadh on Thursday morning at ��Ƶ's request.
