RIYADH: The international theatrical show “Tariq Al Himm” (Inspiration Show) is being held at the Green Halls as part of the activities of the National Day Season in ��Ƶ.
The show, which started on Saturday, will continue until Monday.
The show starts at 9:30 p.m. everyday. It takes the audience on a unique journey depicting the Kingdom’s path to progress and presenting its many artistic moments that renew pride in the country’s past, confidence in the present, and guarantee of a bright future.

RIYADH: A “Since the 60s” musical performance was held during the Saudi National Day Season at the Princess Nora bint Abdul Rahman University Theater in Riyadh, under the guidance and support the chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, Mr. Turki bin Abdul Mohsen Alalshikh, which witnessed the display of 60 songs from the rich musical history in the Kingdom from 1960 to the current year.

The “Since the 60's” event, which ran from September the 19th to the 23rd, included traditional folklore that characterizes each region of the Kingdom.

DUBAI: Google joined the celebration of the 89th Saudi National Day on Monday, with an animated doodle of the Kingdom’s distinctive green flag.

Only visible to Google users in ��Ƶ, the doodle commemorates the announcement of the Kingdom’s unification on Sept. 23 1932 by King Abdul Aziz bin Abdul Rahman Al Saud, as well as the renaming of the country from the Kingdom of Nejd Hejaz to the Kingdom of ��Ƶ.

The important occasion is usually celebrated across the Middle East, where several traditional festivals and other cultural events are hosted.

��Ƶ was on a roll in the 1970s, enjoying the social and cultural developments that had begun in the previous two decades, and buoyed by the rising price of oil and the Kingdom’s first Development Plan.

But 1979 changed everything. ��Ƶ took a conservative turn, prompted by two events: the Iranian Revolution in February, which brought Ayatollah Khomeini to power, and the siege by religious extremists of the Grand Mosque in Makkah.

JEDDAH: For decades, the infamous name Juhayman Al-Otaibi had been buried in the memories of Gen X Saudis.

On Nov. 20, 1979, a well-organized group of terrorists stormed Makkah’s Grand Mosque, killing and wounding hundreds of worshippers and hostages in what came to be one of ��Ƶ’s darkest days. Al-Otaibi was the mastermind behind the terrorist attack.

Fast forward four decades, and in his first American TV interview — with CBS’s “60 Minutes” — Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman vowed to bring back the Kingdom’s pre-1979 moderation.
