DAVOS: The head of Saudi Aramco has laid out a roadmap leading to the sale of shares in the world’s biggest oil company in 2021.
“It’s going to happen,” president and chief executive Amin Nasser told Arab News. “There is no doubt the commitment is there, and it was also further confirmed by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and by the Minister of Energy Khalid Al-Falih.”
The initial public offering — potentially the biggest stock-market flotation in history — will require careful coordination over the next two years, he said.

DAVOS: As the last of the private jets left Davos on Friday, many were asking: What exactly was achieved at the annual meeting of the global elite?

One WEF official said wearily: “They ask that every year, but it’s not really the point. It is always good to talk to different people, and as somebody said, if you’re talking it means you’re not fighting.”

DAVOS: The Central Lounge is thinning out, the Global Situation Space is deserted. The Public Figures Lounge — the abode of the global elite these past few days — is spookily vacant, though the specter of Tony Blair still hangs in the air.

The Davos party is over, and it is time to call it a day.

LONDON: Teenager and award-winning photographer Skye Meaker has more years ahead of him than most people who attended the World Economic Forum in the Swiss mountain resort of Davos.

But the 17-year-old warned delegates at the annual gathering that, unless serious action was taken, some animal species were likely to die out during his lifetime.

Meaker, who lives in South Africa, was invited to Davos after being crowned Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year and used images from his portfolio to drive home his message.

DAVOS, Switzerland: Ministers from 75 countries launched talks toward drawing up global e-commerce rules amid growing calls for technology to be more closely regulated internationally.

The talks were announced by the EU’s top trade official, Cecilia Malmstrom, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, and are to include the US and China, the world’s biggest economies.

The CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, Kirill Dmitriev, said that the demand for petrochemicals growing is growing and will be the “next wave” of oil use.

During a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Wednesday, Dmitriev said petrochemicals and plastics are needed, “even for electric cars.”

“The petrochemicals industry in ��Ƶ is around 150 billion market cap, in Russia its only 30 billion,” he said.

Dmitriev also talked about the historic oil cooperation between Russia and ��Ƶ.

DAVOS: Japanese trade minister Hiroshige Seko on Friday urged Nissan and Renault to maintain a stable alliance and expressed hope that executives from the automakers would take part in productive talks.
The Renault-Nissan alliance has been shaken by the arrest of the automakers’ former chairman Carlos Ghosn on suspicion of financial misconduct. Ghosn, the architect of the alliance, resigned as Renault CEO and chairman this week.

LONDON: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said on Thursday he wants greater engagement with Pakistan as he claimed his country was “turning a corner.”

Ghani said he had spoken to Pakistan’s new Prime Minister Imran Khan but warned that Islamabad still needed to remove the “shadow of violence” in the country.

Pakistan has long been accused of aiding militant groups, including the Taliban, in Afghanistan. Many believe that improved relations between Kabul and Islamabad are crucial to peace in the country.

London: The boss of French energy giant Total has revealed plans to invest in gas filling stations across ��Ƶ.
He was speaking on a panel with the Kingdom’s finance and economy ministers as well as the chief of Morgan Stanley at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
“I am investing in ��Ƶ — heavily,” said Total CEO Patrick Pouyanne.
“We will announce in the coming days that together with Saudi Aramco we will establish a retail network in ��Ƶ.”

DAVOS: Saudi Aramco welcomed a delegation of the global elite to a reception at the World Economic Forum which, even by the glittering standards of Davos, was a sumptuous affair.

Hosted by CEO Amin Nasser, the world’s biggest oil company greeted political and business leaders at the InterContinental hotel, a short drive through the ice night from the main Congress Hall venue.
