TAIF: Makkah Gov. Prince Khalid Al-Faisal will patronize tomorrow’s Souq Okaz ceremony for the Taif Season on behalf of King Salman.
The ceremony will be attended by the chairman of the board of directors of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, Ahmad bin Aqil Al-Khatib, ministers, diplomats and intellectuals from the Kingdom.
Al-Khatib said that Prince Khalid Al-Faisal’s patronage of the ceremony reflects his interest in poetry, culture and Arab and Islamic civilization.

RIYADH: A group of Saudi youths has helped to build a giant market for the latest session of Souq Okaz, one of the most famous historical attractions of its kind in the Arabian Peninsula.

A total of 67 young men and women took part in the construction of the historic market area extending over 41,000 square meters, as part of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage’s (SCTH) drive to support youth employment and skills in the Kingdom.

JEDDAH: The Arabian Horse Beauty Championship organized by the King Abdul Aziz Arabian Horses Center (KAAHC) at the 12th edition of Souq Okaz is successfully under way.

Equestrians all over the world admire the beauty of Arabian horses. The contest, which is taking place at the Souq Okaz racing track, will conclude today.

The 148 participating horses are being judged on the basis of five basic criteria: The head and neck, the back, the legs, the horse’s movement and breed. Additional observations include the beauty of a horse’s skeletal build.

King Abdulaziz Arabian Horses Center (KAAHC) is to hold the Souq Okaz Arabian Horse Beauty Championship on Thursday as part of its participation in the 12th Souq Okaz festival.

Turki Al-Khalty, director of public relations and head of horse beauty contests at KAAHC, said the three-day contest, which is to be held in the Souq Okaz horse racing track between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., consists of 19 rounds with 148 participating horses that belong to Saudi owners.

“This contest aims to encourage competition in this Arab sport,” he added.
