JEDDAH: Syrian activists, working in areas controlled by Daesh in Raqqa and Deir Ezzor, have reported that the number of Saudis fighting for Daesh in the area has declined dramatically.
Speaking to a local newspaper, the activists said that Saudis are almost nonexistent on the war front these days, and the majority of those who enrolled among the ranks of the terrorist group are dead, according to official records of the group.
In a related development, Syrian opposition website Zaman Alwasel analyzed data leaked by a British fighter who penetrated the group last month, and found that the proportion of Saudi fighters, who received a so-called “travel permit,” account for 18.5 percent, followed by Tunisians with 17 percent.
The newspaper reported that the majority of Saudis who leave the group never return, and that the influence of the Iraqi element on the group began to arouse negative feelings among the fighters, especially the Saudis.
