RIYADH: Saudi students stole the show in the first Gulf Physics Olympiad here recently, garnering two gold and two silvers medals.
The gold medal winners were Faisal bin Fahd Al-Saif of Riyadh Education and Yazin Mohammed Al-Majnooni from the Eastern province, an official of the King Abdul Aziz Foundation and His Companions for Talent and Creativity “Mawhiba” said.
Ghada Mohammed Shaalan and Faisal bin Khaled Al-Hajiri picked won the silver medals.
“The achievement confirms that the strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education is paying off,” the official said.
He congratulated the winners’ parents, teachers and their schools for the distinguished record. “This represents a starting point for students from the Gulf of excellence in physics and creativity. It would contribute to creating the right environment for scientific competitiveness among students and improve their capacity.”
The official said the olympiad is a periodic competition for GCC member states under the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. It contains theoretical and practical tests. The event aims to discover outstanding students, develop their abilities and hone their skills.
“We seek also to strengthen ties and promote communication between innovators in the field of physics students, teachers, supervisors and other stakeholders,” he added.
