RIYADH: A total of 112 health violations were reported in Riyadh’s Rawdah area recently with several products confiscated including 30 cans of oil and perfume, 72 kg of food, 23 boxes of pharmaceutical items, and 177 varieties of food unfit for human consumption.
Abdullah Al-Tayyar, head of the municipality, said the violations were reported over two weeks. Three shops were closed, 38 given warnings, and seven workers booked for various minor offenses, he said.
Al-Tayyar urged citizens and expatriates to cooperate with the authorities and report irregularities on the phone number 940.
Recently, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry confiscated 4,211 food products and 40,000 non-food items from shops in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah because they were harmful to consumers.
The food included Zamzam water, frozen chicken, frozen meat, potatoes, frozen chicken parts, burger meat, pickles, cheese, pineapple jam, olive oil, juice, biscuits, dairy products, milk, cake, potato chips, tea, cookies with dates, croissants, orange juice, soda, spices and candy.
The 40,000 non-food items included electric connections, electric plugs and outlets, mobiles and chargers, accessories for mobile phones, chains, cosmetics, Al-Harameen Eyeliner, cream, Vaseline, incense, henna, shampoo, soap, washing liquid, handbags and perfumes.
