JEDDAH: A Tornado warplane of the Royal Saudi Air Force crashed during a routine exercise on Monday in Dhahran, an official source at the Ministry of Defense said.
The plane encountered technical problems soon after taking off from King Abdulaziz Air Base in Dhahran on Monday afternoon, which caused it to crash.
It was not clear if the pilot ejected, but the source said no casualty was reported.
Last December, an F-15 fighter jet of the RSAF crashed into Gulf waters while on a training mission in the Eastern Province, while a an aircraft of the RSAF's Saudi Hawks Team, also on a routine training mission, was approaching the runway at King Faisal Air Base in the northwestern province of Tabuk when it crashed due to a technical glitch.
