I agree with American Ambassador in Riyadh Joseph Westphal’s views that the US-Saudi ties withstand test of time. (US-Saudi relations, which stood the test of time, will achieve its shared goals: US envoy, published in Arab News on Oct. 10).
There are ups and downs in relationships between the countries and those nations that know the importance of trusted allies understand that sometime certain issues crop up for a brief period which test their relationship.
Riyadh and Washington understand that a couple of events like 9/11 and JASTA cannot spoil their bilateral relationships. In fact, there are a number of other fronts where both the nations see eye-to-eye and work unanimously toward fighting terrorism, money laundering, bringing geopolitical stability in the Middle East and a host of other issues.
As the ambassador rightly pointed out that the US ties with ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ is strong and solid, has stood the test of time, and is based on a wide range of interests. The two parties will continue to work together on the most pressing global and regional issues.
I am confident that the enduring and multi-faceted US-Saudi relationship will strengthen further. — Peter Arnold, New York
