RIYADH: A married Saudi couple was arrested on Monday for possession of 600,000 narcotic pills in their car and 30 kg of hashish in their house in Riyadh.
Sources said the husband and wife have been arrested and an investigation has been launched.
The Ministry of Interior announced two weeks ago that it has aborted attempts to smuggling six tons of hashish, 2 million pills of amphetamine, 11.296 kg of cocaine, 4.77 kg of psychedelic drugs and 693 tons of qat.
Ministry of the Interior Spokesman Maj. Gen. Mansour Al-Turki said the ministry is vigilant and serious about fighting the evil.
The Ministry of Justice reduced the penalty for drug crimes (possession, smuggling and dealing) two years ago, leaving it to the judge’s latitude to issue the punishment.
