RIYADH: On the eve of Anti-human Trafficking Day, which was observed on Saturday, the Human Rights Association announced that the Kingdom has taken responsibility in the fight against human trafficking, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
The association said that the Kingdom believed in the importance of fighting this crime in all its forms and preventing it from being carried out with reference to the passing of a law against human trafficking through royal decree number M/40 dated 21/7/1430H. Similarly, the association noted that the Kingdom has created other laws that could contribute to ending this crime, including the prevention against harm law and the law regarding the protection of children, in addition to those relating to cyber crime. The Minister of Interior also issued an order regarding human trafficking, which emphasises the importance of everyone working together to prevent it.
The efforts made by the Kingdom relating to human trafficking are concentrated on its prevention, defense and prosecution, for which a permanent committee to fight human trafficking was recently created. This committee is comprised of the Ministries of Interior, Justice, Culture and Media, the Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Labor and Social Development. The Bureau of Public Prosecution and the Human Rights Association are also part of the committee.
The association has said that the committee's responsibility was to coordinate with the related executive authorities to actively seek out the victims of the human trafficking and potential victims of the crime. Once the committee finds out about the cases related to the human trafficking, they arrest the culprits and hand them over for trial.
Further, they offer health, psychological and social care to the victims, including proving them with safe accommodation for their shelter.
The Human Rights Association said that the Kingdom, in cooperation and partnership with the government and non-governmental organisations is trying to strengthen human rights through these innovative steps against human trafficking. They noted that the government is also working to enforce the law through general and specialised training programmes and workshops within society.
On the occasion of Anti-human Trafficking Day, the Human Rights Association urged all citizens and residents to inform the concerned authorities about any cases of human trafficking they come across so that the necessary actions can be taken against the culprits.
