RIYADH: Four female Saudi athletes are participating in the Rio Olympics which are due to begin on Aug. 5.
The Saudi Olympics Committee has approved the names of the Saudi females for Rio — Sara Al-Attar, Lubna Al-Omair, Cariman Abu Al-Jadail and Wujud Fahmi.
This would be the second Olympic appearance for Al-Attar after she participated in a marathon event at the London Olympics in 2012. Al-Omair will participate in fencing, while Abu Al-Jadael will take part in the 100-meter race. Fahmi will be in the under-52 kg Judo event.
Meanwhile, Dalma Mulhis, another Saudi female athlete, is also attending the Olympics this year. She was the first Saudi woman to participate in an international competition in the youth category at Singapore's 2010 equestrian events. She was also first woman from the Gulf region to receive an Olympic medal — a bronze.
