JEDDAH: There are 36 months to go until families in Jeddah can enjoy the new southern area of the Corniche.
The area, which is between the Park Hyatt Hotel and the Marine Border Guard Institute, is currently under preliminary preparations by the Equestrian Club in Makkah for the start of the new phase of the project.
Engineer Fahad Al-Mohalhil, head of the Equestrian Club in Makkah, said preparations for the actual project will begin in Shawwal, which is expected to take 36 months.
The public is being refrained from entering the site for their own safety as the workplace is being supplied with concrete and other supplies now, he said.
Upon completion, the area’s design will highlight Hijazi architecture with a modern twist, he said.
The project will include an open area with an interactive water fountain with heights of up to 150 meters, a garden, a mosque, a public library, an exhibition center, an open theater, and walking tracks.
The site will also include four locations for water taxis which will connect visitors to the comprehensive transportation system in Jeddah, a maritime museum with open areas, as well as cafés, restaurants, hotels, service apartments and a multi-purpose hall.
Parking spaces for 3,400 vehicles will also be provided, as well as Wi-Fi service for all visitors.
