Saudis and expatriates all over the Kingdom are enjoying the salubrious winter climate sweeping across the Kingdom. The country’s northern region witnessed snowfall on Thursday. Snow blanketed the Alqan Mountain northwest of Tabuk city and many people were seen going out with their families to relish the distinctive weather.
According to the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment, temperatures in the northern regions have reached below zero, with some areas experiencing temperatures of 2 degrees Celsius and cold winds.
The Civil Defense Department has instructed residents in the northern regions to take precautions against the severe cold and have predicted rainfall and snowfall in those regions.
Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan ordered the distribution of emergency aid to residents in the wake of bitter cold. The aid includes blankets and winter clothing, as well as heating equipment for tents, mattresses and food.
The governor urged administrative officials in the region to report cases that are in need of assistance. He emphasized the importance of delivering assistance to beneficiaries as soon as possible.
There was rainfall in many parts of the Makkah region, including Makkah city, Al-Laith and Shuaiba. Schools were closed early in many parts of the region to help students reach home without being delayed by flash floods.
Saudis and expats in Jeddah are enjoying the best weather of the season, which made many foreigners who come from tropical areas nostaglic. “This is the best season for camping,” said Ismail Maritheri from King Abdulaziz University.
“Human beings cannot live continuously in one season,” he said. “We expats feel nostalgic with the onset of this weather,” Maritheri told Arab News.
