RIYADH: Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki bin Faisal, Ƶ’s sports minister, is leading a delegation to SportAccord 2024, a gathering of international sports federations and key figures in the world of sports business.

Prince Turki, who is also the chairman of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, will be accompanied by Prince Fahad bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, the committee’s vice president, and Abdulaziz bin Ahmed Baeshen, its chief executive.

The event, with the theme of ‘The Power of Sport,’ will run until Apr. 11 in the British city of Birmingham.

Around 1,500 participants from 100 countries will gather at the International Convention Centre to network and share ideas related to sports and business.

Ugur Erdener, the president of SportAccord, hailed the role and power of sports.

“Sports is an essential method for keeping peace all over the world,” he said ahead of the opening of the conference on Monday.

Organizers, who tout the event as “sport’s most important industry summit,” said they were pleased with this year’s participation.

“We are delighted with the enthusiastic response of the global sports movement in coming back to SportAccord and the atmosphere in the city is fantastic,” said SportAccord Managing Director Martin Gibbs.

There will be an appearance by Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, and Robin E. Mitchell, the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees.
