Abdullatif bin Mohammed Al-Abdullatif is the newly appointed chief executive officer of the General Commission for Audiovisual Media.

The board of directors of the commission, headed by Acting Media Minister Majid Al-Qasabi, confirmed Al-Abdullatif’s appointment.

Al-Abdullatif has nearly 20 years of experience in the field of information and communication technology having led the team overseeing the national strategy for digital transformation, which encompasses the education sector.

Prior to his current position, Al-Abdullatif held the position of undersecretary of planning and development at the Ministry of Education since August this year.

Between 2018 and 2019, he served as vice president of the digital transformation unit at the National Committee for Digital Transformation.

Prior to that, he held several positions at King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences in Riyadh, most notably the deanship of electronic transactions and communications, where he was also the consultant and project management supervisor.

Between 2015 and 2018, Al-Abdullatif was the head of information at the university. He was also an assistant professor between 2011 and 2015, and undersecretary for electronic services and projects for one year. In 2012 he was the head of the project management office.

Al-Abdullatif has a diverse academic career that began at King Saud University, where he worked as an assistant professor at the college of computer and information sciences, then as a lecturer at Heriot-Watt University in Scotland, UK.

In 2002, before becoming an academic, he worked as a systems analyst at the Saudi Central Bank, also known as the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵn Monetary Authority.

He completed a bachelor’s degree in computer and information sciences at King Saud University in 2002, and in 2006 earned a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. Al-Abdullatif completed a doctorate in computer science at Heriot-Watt University in 2011.
