RIYADH: Authorities in Ƶ thwarted an attempt to smuggle over one million contraband pills that were found hidden in a consignment that came into the Kingdom through the port of Jeddah.
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority was able to prevent the smuggling of 1,100,000 narcotic pills, which were found hidden in “toys, clothes and various goods” that were delivered, and during the inspection process the tablets were found hidden inside the contents of the consignment.
The authority said that five people were arrested in connection with the seizure, after coordinating with the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.
The Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority confirmed that it is continuing to tighten customs control over the Kingdom’s imports and exports through all its outlets, and will exert all efforts to confront smugglers’ attempts, in order to preserve public security and protection.
The authority called on citizens and residents to contribute to combating smuggling in all its forms, to protect society and the national economy and to report related to smuggling crimes and violations of the provisions of the unified customs system in complete secrecy.
I added that a financial reward would be given to whistleblowers in the event that the notification information is correct.
