RIYADH: Ƶ on Saturday strongly condemned a “terrorist attack” that targeted Sinai in Egypt, killing and injuring a number of Egyptian troops.
Eleven Egyptian soldiers were killed earlier on Saturday attempting to thwart an attack on the Suez Canal zone west of the Sinai peninsula.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed the Kingdom’s full support for Egypt against everything that threatens its security and stability, and its appreciation for the role of the Egyptian Armed Forces in confronting the attack.
Ƶ extended condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims and to the Egyptian government and people, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Speaker of the Arab Parliament Adel Al-Asoumi also strongly condemned the attack and reiterated their support and solidarity with Egypt.
The UAE also issued a statement affirming its rejection “of these criminal acts, and its constant rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilising security and stability, in contravention of humanitarian values and principles.”
Kuwaiti, Qatar and Bahrain also issued similar statements condemning the attack and expressing solidarity with Egypt.
