RIYADH: Egypt is to see a 48 percent year-on-year rise in the number of cars on its roads being converted to use natural gas during this fiscal year, the minister of petroleum and mineral resources reported.Â
Tarek El Molla said he expects 82,000 new cars to be adapted to use natural gas as fuel, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
He explained that there are many economic and environmental benefits that arise from this transition.Â
So far, the number of gas-powered vehicles in Egypt has reached 440,000, El Molla said.Â
During the first quarter of 2022, the country’s natural gas sales have averaged 87 million cubic meters.
