Qatar comes in third place among Arab countries in the Brand Finance Global Soft Power Index, with a global rank of 26, maintaining last year’s position. 

Sports have played a very significant role in cementing Qatar’s global soft power position. 

Since the early 1990s, Qatar has heavily invested in promoting its image through sports. Not only has it spent more than $1.6 billion on Paris Saint-Germain football club, it is also hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

The Global Soft Power Index stresses on the idea that the small size of a nation is not a barrier to occupying a strong position in the soft power ranking.

Indeed, with a small population of 2.8 million inhabitants, Qatar has been able to to exert global, economic and political influence disproportionate to its size
