MADINAH: Madinah Gov. Prince Faisal bin Salman attended an education awards ceremony geared toward orphans from the holy city.

The prince, chairman of the Takaful Charity Foundation board of directors, patronized the third annual Sheikh Ibrahim Julaidan Award for Academic Excellence event that honors outstanding students.

The governor watched a presentation about the awards, its nomination process, and its total prize pot of SR75,000 ($20,000) distributed among winners in the high school graduates, first and second-grade secondary, middle school, and primary school student categories.

During the ceremony, winners outlined their academic experiences and revealed how the awards had motivated them to excel.

Prince Faisal reviewed Takaful’s educational achievements and the programs provided to rehabilitate and encourage Madinah orphans.

Abdulmohsen bin Moaidh Al-Harbi, secretary-general of the charity, pointed out the positive impacts of the awards scheme and other projects offered by Takaful. He said the number of successful candidates nominated for the awards had jumped from 312 students in the first session to a current 1,068, with winners up from 45 to 92.
