DAMMAM: Municipalities have ramped up efforts to monitor compliance with health and safety measures introduced to help stop the spread of coronavirus.
Tabuk municipality has carried out 36,395 inspection tours at shopping malls, commercial centers and stores since the start of July.
These checks resulted in 67 commercial outlets being shut down, while 118 violators were given penalties for ignoring health regulations.
Asir municipality carried out 9,766 inspection tours in two weeks across food facilities, shops, and markets.
During the tours, 19 facilities were shut down and 125 violations were detected.
The violations included noncompliance with social distancing and mask wearing, leniency in measuring the temperature of customers, overcrowding issues, and a failure to use the Tawakkalna app effectively.
The municipalities urged all commercial facilities to abide by the regulations to ensure public safety and prevent the virus from spreading.
Officials have urged the public to report any suspected health breaches by phoning the 940 call center number or contacting authorities through the Balady app.
