ADEN: The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has worked on removing the surface water caused by the heavy rainfall that hit the temporary capital, Aden, over the past few days. It worked in cooperation with the Aden Cleaning and Improvement Fund to make it easier for people to walk in the city and to prevent the health risks the water poses.
SDRPY carried out the work in two phases. First it removed the surface water on main roads, and then it tackled residential neighborhoods.
SDRPY had transported 80 water loads by Saturday, bringing the overall quantity of water removed over the past three days from all the sites to 750,000 liters.
The program had previously helped Aden in the area of environmental sanitation. They included the 鈥淏eautiful Aden鈥� cleaning and environmental sanitation campaign, which, after 100 days of hard work, restored the city鈥檚 beautiful appearance.
The campaign reduced the levels of environmental and visual pollution. It removed 86,620 cubic meters of debris and waste, disposed of 11,860,000 liters of rainwater, watered trees using 3,760,000 liters of water and directly benefitted 850,000 people.
