DUBAI: Abu Dhabi has signed two cooperation agreements with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), state news agency WAM has reported.

The deals will strengthen the UAE capital’s collaboration with the FAO in agricultural planning and biosecurity, Minister of State for Food Security Mariam Hareb Al-Mheiri said, adding that it would “ensure the sustainability of the national food sector.”

Food security is part of the UAE’s core policy agenda. The country is working on 19 projects with the FAO, particularly in developing local food production to meet its obligations toward the UN’s zero-hunger sustainable development goal.

The agreements will also encourage the use of innovation and technology to address food security issues, said Dino Francescutti, sub-regional coordinator of the FAO in Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Yemen.
