RIYADH: The Saudi Project for Landmine Clearance (Masam) in Yemen dismantled 38 anti-personnel mines, 393 anti-tank mines, 18 explosive devices and 1,569 other items of unexploded ordnance — totalling 2,018 mines — during the third week of November.
The project is implemented by Saudi cadres and international experts to remove mines planted by Iran-backed Houthi militias in various Yemeni regions, especially Marib, Aden, Sanaa and Taiz. A total of 200,000 mines have been extracted since the beginning of the project. More than 1.1 million mines have been planted by the Houthis in Yemen during the conflict, claiming hundreds of civilian lives.Â
