DUBAI: Ƶ and the UAE have condemned the extremist attacks that took place in Austria’s Vienna on Monday, leaving four dead, including an attacker.
The Kingdom’s foreign ministry affirmed the country's solidarity with Austria in taking all necessary measures to maintain its security and protect itself from extremism and violence in all its forms.
Ƶ's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir tweeted that the attack was a heinous crime contrary to all religions and human values.
“We share with friends in the Republic of Austria the sorrow of the terrorist crime that targeted innocent people in Vienna. This heinous crime and its likes are contrary to all religions and human values, and it emphasizes to us that terrorism has no religion or race,” his tweet said.
Meanwhile, the UAE’s foreign ministry said it also condemned what it called “criminal acts,” adding that it “rejects all forms of violence and extremism that are incompatible with religious and humanitarian values and principles.”
The ministry further offered its condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
Austrian police raided 18 properties and arrested 14 people in a massive manhunt on Tuesday for possible accomplices of a convicted terrorist who shot dead four people and injured 22 others in a late-night rampage in Vienna.
The gunman, who was killed by police minutes after opening fire on crowded bars on Monday, had been released from jail less than a year ago. He was identified as Kujtim Fejzulai, a 20-year-old Austrian who also held North Macedonian nationality.
