ISLAMABAD: A Pakistani aircraft carrying medical aid arrived in Damascus on Sunday to help Syria in coronavirus response, a Syrian state-owned news agency reported.
The aid was organized by Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and delivered by Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the national flag carrier.
Citing Pakistani Ambassador Saeed Muhammad Khan, Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) said the aid included medical equipment and protective gear, and would be distributed to hospitals and authorities responsible for the COVID-19 fight in the war-torn country.
Syria's Deputy Health Minister Ahmad Khleifawi welcomed the aid, SANA reported, as he stressed its importance in supporting the country's health sector.
Syria is considered especially vulnerable to the pandemic due to dire humanitarian situation and the civil war that has been ongoing for nearly a decade.Â
