CAIRO: Two Kuwaiti men have been detained after an Egyptian shopkeeper was beaten up and the video circulated on social media.
Egypt’s immigration ministry said on Sunday that the two men were in custody and that the victim was attacked at his workplace following a quarrel.
The footage was apparently filmed by the attackers and showed the worker in a toy store beaten to the floor in Fahaheel south of Kuwait City.
The Egyptian ministry said the footage released “does not include all the details of the incident between the parties involved in the assault.”
The victim told the ministry that he wished to remain anonymous.
The video sparked an angry reaction from Egyptians on social media and follows a number of similar incidents.
In July, a Kuwaiti man was arrested for slapping an Egyptian cashier three times at a supermarket in Kuwait.
And in 2018, an attack on an Egyptian woman living in Kuwait sparked an angry response from Egypt’s immigration minister Nabila Makram.
Egyptians make up the second largest expatriate community in Kuwait, with more than 600,000 living in the country.
