DUBAI: UAE authorities have enforced distance learning at several schools after some staff tested positive for coronavirus, state news agency WAM reported.
The cases were detected during the precautionary stage in which all school staff had to undergo COVID-19 tests before the start of the new school year.
The Ministry of Education and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority said the schools would keep parents informed of updates on the study program and health status of detected cases.
Parents should keep their children home if they have any symptoms to curb the spread of coronavirus, the report added.
School attendance capacities will be capped at 25 percent and will gradually increase, national daily Khaleej Times quoted minister of education as saying.
“Overall student’ attendance numbers will be initially limited to 25 percent and after two weeks, we plan to increase this to 50 percent, then 75 percent, and until we reach full attendance for those opting for in-person classes,” Hussain Al-Hammadi said.
UAE schools started spring break earlier this year due to the coronavirus, and then resorted to distance learning until the end of the academic year in June.
The country has confirmed 70,805 coronavirus cases, of which 61,491 have recovered and 384 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.
