Ghassan Al-Shibl has been the chairman of the board of the Local Content and Government Procurement Authority since January 2019. He is also the adviser to the general secretariat of the Council of Ministers since January 2019 and vice chairman of the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵn Military Industries (SAMI) since October 2017.
Al-Shibl obtained his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at King Saud University in 1981. He did a master’s in engineering management from the School of Engineering and Applied Science at George Washington University in 1987, and his Ph.D. in engineering and industrial management from the same university in 1990. He also attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard University in 1996.
Prior to his current position, Al-Shibl worked as a teaching assistant at King Saud University from 1982 to 1983. He also worked as head of follow-up at the general directorate of projects of the Ministry of Interior between 1983 to 1990. Al-Shibl worked in different key positions at the Advanced Electronic Co. He served as vice president operations between 1990 and 1994, executive vice president from 1994 to 1997, chief operating officer between 1997 and 2003, president and CEO from 2003 to 2016, and adviser to the board of directors in 2016.
Al-Shibl was also associated with the Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG). He served as a board member and managing director between 2017 and 2018 and later SRMG board chairman.
Al-Shibl also served as chairman of the board of ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵn Airlines between January 2017 and January 2020.
Following King Salman’s successful surgery, he, on behalf of the commission, prayed for the safety of the king.
He also praised the authorities for organizing a safe Hajj this year under extraordinary circumstances.
