ABHA: Asir Gov. Prince Turki bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz praised the Saudi leadership’s response to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic during an inspection of health services in the region.

The prince, who is also supervisor of Asir’s regional COVID-19 management department, made his comments while visiting Prince Faisal bin Khaled Cardiac Center, and Asir Central Hospital, where he met health workers and patients.

During his visit, Prince Turki greeted medical staff on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr and thanked them for their efforts during the COVID-19 crisis.

The director general of Asir’s health affairs, Khaled bin Ayed Asiri, said the prince’s tour had provided a motivational boost to Asir’s “health heroes” and he expressed his gratitude for the governor’s ongoing support.

Under Prince Turki’s directions, the health department in Asir has struck a balance between the suspension of some services and the continuation of others, and a number of initiatives have been launched to ensure the sustainability of health provision once the COVID-19 crisis is over.

Asiri said that between March 1 and May 25, the cardiac center had performed 17 open-heart surgeries, 315 cardiac catheterizations, provided 80 medical consultations remotely, conducted 184,000 lab tests, and issued 5,200 medical prescriptions.
