DUBAI: Local authorities in ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ carried out inspections of over 1,510 food and commercial facilities in Medina, state news agency reported on Sunday.

Restaurants and slaughter houses were also part of the inspections, which were carried out to ensure health and safety measures were adhered to, the report said.

Out of the 1,510 tours, 60 violating facilities were closed. The teams also issued warnings to 499 establishments and destroyed 6,272 kilograms of expired food.

Environmental sanitation teams have also intensified sanitizing the areas through a spraying operation. They removed household and construction wastes to help control the spread of the novel coronavirus.

A total of 1,132 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in the Kingdom on Saturday, meaning 8,274 people are confirmed to have contracted the disease. There are currently 6,853 active cases, 78 of them critical. Of the new cases 21 percent are Saudi, while 79 percent are expatriates.

Most of the newly announced cases were revealed through mass testing activities that target high-risk areas like crowded neighborhoods and workers' dormitories.
