DUBAI: Iranian lawmakers have refused to remain in quarantine in the parliament building for the next few months, Persian media Radio Farda reported on Saturday.
The proposal came as dozens of lawmakers in the country tested positive for COVID-19, including Speaker of the Parliament Ali Larijani, the highest-ranking Iranian official to have the virus.
But lawmakers voted the proposal down and have decided sessions will continue until May when the newly elected parliament convenes, according to the report.
The parliament was shut down in early March as cases grew across the country. The parliament building held a session on April 9 with the majority of lawmakers attending.
Three Iranian lawmakers have so far died of the virus. Others have remained hospitalized.
The overall cases in Iran stood at 70,029 as of Sunday.
