SINGAPORE: Several traders in Malaysia and Singapore have begun selling and marketing food items online after authorities said on Friday that the highly anticipated annual Ramadan Bazaar would be canceled this year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
Malaysia’s Defense Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that no bazaars would be held if the Movement Control Order was extended, especially after the number of cases rose to 3,500.
Meanwhile, Singapore closed its iconic Geylang Serai Ramadan Bazaar, too.
“For the well-being and safety of our residents, the People’s Association will not be organizing festive bazaars and trade fairs with effect from March 18. This includes the annual Hari Raya Bazaars organized at Wisma Geylang Serai as well as at Our Tampines Hub and in Woodlands,” a statement released by the PA said.
