Ibrahim bin Mahmoud Al-Nahas has been a member of the Shoura Council since 2016.
He recently commented on King Salman’s royal decree of Dec. 12, which stated that the Saudi Control and Investigation Board and the Mabahith domestic security and counter-intelligence agency were to be incorporated into the National Anti-Corruption Authority, which would be renamed the Control and Anti-Corruption Authority.
Al-Nahas said: “While focusing on the content of this royal decree, we recognize that we are at an important and historic stage of developing and modernizing society and the state on more accurate foundations, clearer regulations, stricter laws and declared and transparent standards.”
He added that the structural arrangements, specifically those related to fighting financial corruption, clarified the future objectives of the state in seeking to firmly implement regulations and prevent double standards.
Now based in Riyadh, Al-Nahas received a bachelor’s degree in political science from King Saud University (KSU) in 1996, and a master’s degree in the same subject, specializing in international relations, from the American University in Washington, D.C. in 2003. In 2007, he obtained a Ph.D. in philosophy from West Virginia University, in the US.
Al-Nahas started his career as a lecturer at KSU, teaching political science from 1998.
In 2006, he worked for the education department in AlUla region, while simultaneously advancing to assistant professor at KSU.
In 2012, he was promoted to vice dean of the college of law, and later became head of the political science department, a post he held until 2016.
Al-Nahas’ expertise led to him sitting on the boards of many institutions and he was a part-time adviser to the culture ministry and the Institute of Diplomatic Studies at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was also the chairman of the committee for the development of programs in the faculty of law and political science at KSU.
