RIYADH: ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ on Monday hailed theÌýkilling of Daesh leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi who hadÌý"distorted" the image of Islam, and hailed his killing.

Al-Baghdadi was killed by US special forces in northwest Syria and "died a coward" by blowing himself up after he was cornered in a tunnel, Donald Trump said Sunday.Ìý

"The Saudi government appreciates the great efforts of the US administration in pursuing the members of this dangerous terrorist organization, which distorted the true image of Islam and Muslims around the world and committed atrocities and crimes that contradict the most basic human values in many countries including the Kingdom," ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The ministry said the KingdomÌý "is continuing its efforts with its allies, led by the United States of America, in combating terrorism, drying up its sources and confronting its dangerous criminal ideology."

Donald Trump said Al-Baghdadi was killed during a night time raid.

“The thug who tried so hard to intimidate others spent his last moments in utter fear, panic and dread, terrified of the American forces coming down on him," the US president said in a televised address to the nation from the White House.
