RIYADH: A national afforestation campaign was launched on Saturday in the Kingdom, as the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s tree-planting campaign began in Riyadh’s Thadiq National Recreation Park, where 50,000 trees were planted.
The campaign constitutes the first step of a national afforestation plan set to run until April 2020.
The Kingdom’s Vision 2030 program has attached utmost importance to environmental protection and natural resources due to their pivotal role in achieving sustainable development and society’s prosperity.
The ministry provided a special registration form on its website for those wishing to join the campaign.
The minister of environment, water and agriculture, Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli, said: “This great effort complements the ministry’s objectives in preserving the environment and combating desertification, as it aims to plant more than 6 million trees during this season in all regions of the Kingdom.
“This national campaign is our way to combat desertification and restore our vegetation.”
The minister expressed his sincere thanks to all those who contributed, calling on everyone to participate in afforestation campaigns in all regions of the Kingdom.
