ISLAMABAD: In a bid to raise awareness about the rights and needs of orphans, the Muslim World League’s (MWL) regional office hosted an iftar for a group of children in Islamabad on Monday.
The event also marked Orphans Day, the first such initiative of its kind in Islamabad.
Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, Nawaf Saeed Al-Malki attended the event where he appreciated the work done by the MWL and its affiliated bodies in contributing toward a better life for the parentless children.
The Muslim world observes the Orphan’s Day on the 15th day of Ramadan every year as a means to honor the children and to remind all member states to make concerted efforts in extending relief and protection to them.
In a statement released on 19 May this year, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) called on all member states and humanitarian organizations to raise awareness about the issues faced by the orphans.
“The General Secretariat aims to dedicate this day to encourage member states and humanitarian and cultural organizations to take care of orphans,” the statement read.
