As the Saudi Capital Market Authority (CMA) deputy for strategy and international affairs, Bander Al-Sajjan oversees research and policy development, international relations and the authority’s fintech initiative.
Before joining the CMA in 2016, Al-Sajjan was deputy head of development and quality at the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) in Riyadh.
He was a board member of both the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (Brussels) from 2013-2016, and the Human Resources Development Fund (Riyadh) from 2012-2016.
In 2008, Al-Sajjan gained a Ph.D. from Brunel University London, focusing on online banking. In 2001, he was awarded an MBA by Scranton University in the US. His research has been published in academic journals including the Journal of Business Research and the Journal of Public Administration (Arabic).
In an address to the Financial Sector Conference in Riyadh, Al-Sajjan outlined the growth in fintech over the past decade and the increasing sophistication of new applications. Rapid growth has created a challenge for regulators seeking to balance oversight and risk mitigation with an enabling environment.
