Essam bin Abed Al-Thaqafi is Ƶ’s ambassador to Indonesia. He began his diplomatic career in 1981, when he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Jeddah office.
He has since worked between the Foreign Ministry's office in Riyadh and the Kingdom’s embassies in Mexico and the US.
He has also served as the Kingdom’s ambassador to Brunei, Argentina and Norway.
He was director general of the European Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He has a bachelor’s degree in public relations and media from King Abdul Aziz University in Jeddah, and has taken part in several UN conferences.
Last year, he published a personal account of his diplomatic career. The book titled “An Ambassador between Two Poles,” a reference to the positions of Argentina and Norway, chronicled his life and career working in five embassies around the world.
Al-Thaqafi took the oath of office at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh before King Salman.
He was sworn in with other ambassadors designated to other countries including the US, Cameroon, Austria, the UK and Georgia.
On Tuesday, Al-Thaqafi called on Saudi Shoura Council Speaker Dr. Abdullah Al-Asheikh along with other newly appointed Saudi envoys.
