BRUSSELS: The head of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has called for urgent international action to address the plight of Syrian refugees and displaced people.
The OIC’s secretary-general, Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen, has issued a plea for financial help to bridge a funding gap in humanitarian aid for the millions left homeless by the long-running conflict in Syria.
In a key address before the Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region, being held in Brussels, Al-Othaimeen urged the international community to stump up extra funding to tackle one of the worst humanitarian disasters in the world. The eight-year war in Syria has claimed around half-a-million lives since March 2011.
