RIYADH: An oil tanker carrying the first batch of Saudi oil derivatives has reached Aden, said Arab coalition spokesman Col. Turki Al-Maliki on Monday.
Addressing the weekly press conference in Riyadh, he said the monthly grant of oil derivatives worth $60 million would help the war-ravaged country to operate power plants in all regions under the control of the legitimate government.
Al-Maliki highlighted the impact of this grant on the overall economy of the country, which has been devastated by the Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists.
The spokesman also confirmed that ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵ and the UAE would each donate $35 million to pay teachers in Yemen.
Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, general supervisor of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, made this announcement last week.
He said that the contributions reflect the concern of the Saudi-led coalition countries about the situation in the country and their desire to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people, who have been suffering economic hardship. Many Yemenis, and teachers, in particular, have not been paid for some time. The donations, with the assistance of UNICEF, will help provide salaries for 135,000 teachers.
Al-Maliki said teachers in Yemen had not been paid since September 2016 because of the Houthi terrorists.
He also gave an overview of the humanitarian operations being carried out by the Arab coalition to mitigate the effects of cyclone Luban in Yemen’s Al-Mahra governorate.
Humanitarian operations
Several relief ports are open for Yemen (air, sea, land) and the total maritime permits issued by Hodeidah port from the Joint Forces Command from March 26, 2015, to Oct. 29, 2018, has reached 4,731.
Houthi violations
The coalition spokesman said Project Masam had removed 11,785 land mines. During the past three weeks, 77 anti-personnel mines, 3,116 anti-vehicle mines, 1,817 explosive devices and 146 unexploded ordnances had been removed.
From March 26, 2015, to Oct. 29, 2018, the Houthi terrorists fired 205 missiles toward the Kingdom.
