Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Qasem has been president of Saudi Red Crescent Authority since his appointment in November 2016, upon a royal decree.

Previously he worked as a consultant to a number of ministers, such as the minister of communications and information technology, the minister of commerce and industry, and the minister of health.

As president of the supervisory committee of Hajj and Umrah at the Saudi Red Crescent Authority, Al-Qasem led the committee’s annual meeting on Monday to review all the preparations for the Hajj season of 2018, including the emergency plans, medical teams’ operation mechanism, report-receiving mechanisms, and services to be offered for pilgrims.

He received his bachelor’s degree in 1990 in information systems from the College of Computer and Information Science at the University of King Saud in Riyadh. 

In 1994 he obtained his master’s degree in information systems from the University of Pittsburgh in the US.

He also holds a Ph.D. in computer science, which he received in 1999 from the University of Keele in the UK.

He also supervised the digital excellence award and the national CIT plan, and the e-training caravans at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. 

In addition, Al-Qasem is a member of the Social Charity Fund. He was a director of the Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Company between 2013 and 2016, a member of the executive committee at Takaful charity foundation between 2015 and 2016, and a director of the cybercrimes studies center at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University between 2012 and 2016.
