ECP issues final list of 11,855 candidates

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued the final list of candidates taking part in general elections.

As many as 11,855 candidates will run for 849 general seats in national and provincial assemblies, according to the ECP.

A total of 21,482 candidates filed nomination papers for election to national and provincial assemblies and after scrutiny by the ECP and the withdrawal of some nominations, the ECP issued a final list late on Monday night.

3,459 candidates will contest 272 National Assembly seats, while 8,396 candidates for 577 provincial assembly seats are on the final list.

44 candidates are contesting minority seats in the National Assembly.

The ECP data list shows: “4,242 candidates for the Punjab Assembly, 1,007 for Baluchistan, 1,264 for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 2,382 for Sindh.”

The general election will be held on July 25.

Last week, the ECP extended polling time by one hour in order to facilitate greater voter participation.
