CAIRO: The prosecution office in Egypt’s resort city of Hurghada has ordered the detention of an Egyptian suspect in an attempted robbery that ended with a Ukrainian employee’s murder, local reports have said.
The suspect was ordered to be detained for four days, pending investigations on Sunday, two days after authorities discovered the crime.
It is reported that the man, from the upper Egypt governorate of Qena, has been undergoing financial difficulties that prompted him to storm the victim’s apartment and attempt robbery.
The suspect, who is over the age of 30, did not know the victim before he was “surprised with her presence” at the crime scene.
He reportedly attacked the Ukrainian victim before stabbing her multiple times for trying to stop him.
Shortly prior to his arrest by police, he was also seen with blood stains on his clothes as he went to a laundry to get them washed.
