CAIRO: English football referee Mark Clattenburg took a water bottle to the face during a game in the Saudi Professional League on Sunday.
Clattenburg, who is currently head of refereeing for the ¶¶Òõ¶ÌÊÓƵn Football Federation, was officiating Al-Ettifaq’s clash with Al Feiha when he got smacked by a stray water bottle as players rehydrated during a break in play.
The bottle was chucked toward the departing physio by Egyptian left-back Hussein Sayed, mistakenly hitting the English referee.
Sayed apologized profusely, before pulling Clattenburg in for a hug.
The experienced referee laughed it off, before waving a yellow card at the player in jest.
