DUBAI: West Bromwich Albion are rumored to be interested in signing Egyptian center-back Ali Gabr on a six-month loan deal, Egyptian media has reported.
The Midlands club, according to local reports, offered $366,000 to sign Gabr until the end of the Premier League season.
The 31-year-old, who plays for Cairo’s Zamalek, has been one of the side’s key players since joining from Alexandria-based club Ittihad in the summer of 2014, helping them win a rare domestic double in 2015 and the Egypt Cup title in 2016.
If Gabr does make the move to West Brom he will join fellow Egyptian international Ahmed Hegazi at The Hawthorns. Hegazi has starred for West Brom this season having joined the club on loan from Al-Ahly last summer. He has proved such a success that the club made his move permanent in December.Â
Should Gabr make the move to the Premier League he would not only join Hegazi, but also Mohamed Salah and Ramadan Sobhi as players flying the flag for Egypt in the world’s most popular league.Â
Salah has been a revelation since he joined Liverpool at the start of the season, scoring 24 goals for the Reds, while Sobhi has been a regular for Stoke as they battle relegation.Â
Gabr has made 18 international appearances since making his debut for Egypt in 2014.
